What do we mean by foot pain?

When there is a pain anywhere on the foot, first thing we do is check to see what we can see that may be the cause of the pain. There may be visible signs such as redness, callus, or corns. This can be treated by a chiropodist/podiatrist.

If there are no obvious visible signs, the pain is likely to be caused by overuse of certain structures within the foot or ankle - this is called functional pain, e.g. tendinitis, joint overuse, sprains and strains.
Foot deformities such as bunions can also cause pain elsewhere in the foot.

Why do I have foot and ankle pain?

There are many causes of foot and ankle pain. The most common cause of this is overuse, causing strain to the structures involved – such as tendinitis, plantar fasciitis or joint inflammation. It could also be due to a systemic illness such as gout, Rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes.
We understand how foot and ankle pain can limit your activities and stop you from doing what you love.

How can you treat foot and ankle pain?

The first thing to do when treating ankle pain will be to examine your foot/ankle thoroughly in order to establish what is causing the pain. Once the diagnosis is obtained by assessing the movement of joints and postural changes during walking using digital gait analysis, I can advise you on the most effective course of treatment for you.
